Get to know our TGE in FDI initiative
A global initiative to further advance gender equality in the field of FDI and investment promotion, launched by FDI Center in 2022.
What is the TGI in FDI initiative?
This initiative aims to provide practical knowledge and tools for IPAs to create opportunities for female leaders within their own organizations, while contributing to greater gender equality and societal benefits through the investment they attract.
It provides a global platform for economic development and FDI practitioners of all genders to share their experiences, learn from each other, and collaborate on gender-related issues and challenges in the FDI sector.
The initiative draws upon UN SDG 5: Gender equality and women’s empowerment and promotes it in the context of economic development, FDI, and investment promotion.

Why we launched this initiative
From our own research, women are underrepresented in the field of FDI, even more so at leadership level. Therefore, to further progress towards gender equality within the realm of FDI, we launched this initiative to promote gender equality within EDOs, share best practices and give women and anyone interested in the topic a platform to connect.
We also believe that FDI has great potential to further gender equality within the host nation. By applying a gender lens onto investment, FDI can have a positive impact on gender equality through its operations. We want to bring this topic to the forefront of discussion and present the most effective ways of doing this.

The four components of the initiative
Gender equality through FDI
We emphasize how FDI can advance gender equality by considering gender across all areas of the investment flow. One way IPAs can do this is by integrating gender into their targets to attract FDI that furthers gender equality by strengthening women’s economic participation, for example.
Gender equality in IPAs
We strive for gender balance and diversity in all aspects and departments and seniority levels of IPAs. Therefore, we showcase female leaders of economic development organizations to increase their visibility and promote women in leadership.
TGEinFDI community
We engage in various activities to share knowledge and best practices on how FDI can foster gender equality. These include a community group, newsletter, an interview series, webinars and networking events.
